Driver CPC Courses

TYPG Enterprises is pleased to offer Driver CPC courses to the public, in conjunction with one of our Industry Partners.

In the timeframe March 2012 to August 2013, we plan to offer around eight days of training (every PCV or HGV driver needs to do five days, 35 hours in total).

The next dates are Thursday 1 November 2012 and Friday 2 November 2012 (and you are welcome to book for one or the other, or book for both), with coffee at 09:00 for a prompt 09:30 start. The topics for the Thursday will be Legislation, Health & Safety, fuel-efficient driving, introduction to tachographs, and safe driving principles, and is suitable for both bus and truck licence holders, and on the Friday customer care, hazard perception, safe and legal carrying of passengers and loads, drivers hours including digital tacho and roadside penalties again suitable for both bus or truck drivers. Due to a quirk of the DSA rules for Driver CPC, it would be perfectly possible to attend the same course on five days - however for the driver to gain maximum benefit, we recommend that five separate subjects are chosen.

The cost of each day is £49.95 plus VAT which includes everything (course, venue, upload and tea/coffee), and the course will take place in the pleasant surroundings of a country pub near Tadcaster (in a private function room).

For those arriving by public transport, we will include a free courtesy minibus from Tadcaster Bus Station (frequent buses from York and Leeds) on request. Hot and cold lunches will be available direct from the venue, with orders taken mid-morning to allow for an efficient lunchtime. There is ample free parking available at the venue (for cars and buses).

We welcome enquiries and bookings from anyone. You might be a:

  • self employed driver or owner driver
  • an employed driver whose company haven't done anything about Driver CPC, or who have left it up to the driver to plan and arrange
  • a bus coach or truck operator looking for a local course for a few drivers
  • a preservationist or bus enthusiast, looking to future-proof your licence

You need to act now. If you don't, then from the morning of Tuesday 10 September 2013 (for buses and coaches) and Wednesday 10 September 2014 (for lorries and trucks) you will not be able to drive "commercially".

There will be exemptions, detailed at the official Driver CPC website but none of the exemptions cover a driver driving a typical bus or coach with paying passengers, or driving a laden truck. If you think an exemption may apply to you, we advise that you seek specialist legal advice, and recommend that a copy of this specialist advice is carried with you when out on the road.

From the dates above, the offence will be failure to produce your Driver Qualification Card - which is the blue card issued once 35 hours training have been undertaken. If drivers haven't done all 35 hours by the dates above, their only option (if in the future they wish to drive professionally) is to complete the Driver CPC Initial Qualification that new drivers have to undertake.

To book, please call 01904 702020, and our friendly team will either give you the address for a cheque, or bank details should you prefer to pay that way.
